Interesting facts:

Peterson Post Office - 1862 to 1876: The location of the Post Office moved about as it was housed in the home of the current Postmaster.  All offices were within a 1/2 mile radius of the junction of the Bobcaygeon and Peterson Roads. William Jarvis was the postmaster from Oct 1, 1868 to Nov 1, 1876. Mr. Jarvis's home was destroyed by fire, and no other person in the vicinity was willing to take on the job, so the office was closed. Shortly thereafter, William Jarvis and his family emigrated to the United States.

In 1867 Jarvis (aka Gervais) received received a licence to sell spirits. †he fee for the tavern licence in 1869 was $30.00 and the for a shop keeper was $50.00. The cost for whiskey was $10.00 a gallon, $2.00 a bottle and $1.25 for 186 g.
