Our Heritage on the Map

The Algonquin Highlands Heritage Map Project

A collaboration of the volunteers in the Oxtongue Lake area, the Dorset Museum, the Stanhope Museum, and you!

This website features cultural and historical maps of the Township; full of interesting information on pioneer settlers and settlements, historic sites, veterans and local lore.

The goal of this project and website is to engage our seniors in capturing, preserving and promoting the culture and heritage of the Township of Algonquin Highlands. Our settlement areas expanded beyond our geographic borders, so we include neighbouring hamlets.

This is a work in progress - we welcome your input – photos, documents, and stories –  as we create a shared record of the history and culture of our communities on this website!

If you would like to share with us, please contact us using the Contribute tab.

This project is funded by the New Horizons for Seniors program and supported by the Township of Algonquin Highlands.
