Interesting facts: Robert Welch, Hall's Lake Dies from Motor Accident
Mr. Robert Welch, aged 43 years, of Hall's Lake, passed away early Tuesday morning after suffering from injuries received in an automobile accident early Sunday morning. After attending the weekly Saturday night dance at hall's Lake, Mr. Welch, in company with Mr. Ed Hewitt, also of Hall's Lake, visited with mr. and Mrs. Leslie Maguire before returning home.
A heavy fog was hanging over the land when they left M. Maguire's about one o'clock, making it an almost impossibility to see the road which lead out of the yard. This road passed close to a gravel pit several feet deep and with a perpendicular side.
Owing to the heavy fog they failed to follow the road and the car plunged into the pit, pinning Mr. Welch beneath it. Mr. and Mr.s Maguire, hearing the crash, rushed out and managed with difficulty to release Mr. Welch. He was taken to the home of Mr. Maguire and later to his own home, where he passed away Tuesday morning, fracture of the skull being the chief cause of death.
Mr. Hewitt escaped with an injured back from which he is suffering much, though able to be about.
