Rueben Rowe Henderson provided large quantities of hides and tallow for the general store, and also supplied lumber camps like Gilmours and Rathburns with both hay and slaughter animals. In his 1966 Collection of Sketches, "The Drovers Tale, as recorded by Jos. Hewitt", Clayton Rogers tells how lumbering and agriculture developed side by side. The lumber camps became a prime market for agricultural produce: Mr. Rueben Henderson residing on a farm fronting on Lake Kushog with his brother Miles of Minden Township secured contracts from Mickle Dyment Co. for the furnishing of their beef supply for the season. This contract was renewed and they held this market for some years.
Winston Post Office - 1900 to 1905: Lot 18, Conc. 4, Stanhope. Current address: North Shore Road, Algonquin Highlands. Winston Post Office opened in 1900 on the property of Reuben Henderson, the Postmaster, to serve residents on the north sides of Beech and Maple Lakes. In 1903, Mr. Henderson sold part of his property to William Ferguson and moved to Saskatchewan.
Reuben Rowe Henderson's mother was Amy Ezelda Clark, daughter of Benjamin Clark and Clarinda Henderson. Her first husband was William Henderson and her second husband was Thomas Mason.
