Some of Guilford's pioneers, like Joseph Griffin, had owned land in Stanhope before moving east to Guilford. Griffin bought property on the Irish Line which is still owned by son, Ernest Griffin, before purchasing his final home on the north shore of Grass Lake. In Quest of Yesterday by Nila Reynolds. Before improved transportation facilities made the services of undertakers from Minden and Haliburton possible, Mr. Joseph Griffin, who was skilled in cabinet work, fashioned fine caskets from local woods and kind hearted neighbours prepared the bodes for burial. Source: Ibid. pg 158
Sarah's obituary mentions that after their marriage in 1877, they settled on the Irish Line in Guilford township, A few years later they moved to Boskung "Island" where they stayed for three years before settling at the head of Grass Lake.
