Location: This lot runs west and south from Dawson Road including a small lake.

Land acquisition:

  • 1876 Lands Liable to Taxation: Township of Stanhope Patent Register - 92 acres to John McPhail.
  • BUT according to the Parcel Register Book for Concession 6 (Images 116 and 119) half was received from The Crown in 1892 by Hugh McPhail (John's father) and transferred in 1904 to Duncan McPhail (Hugh's son) and to John McPhail in 1915.

Other properties:

  • Lot 29, Conc. 7, Stanhope: 1883 from Whitney W. Blott and sold the south half to Frederick McPhail (his brother) in 1896 for $200.
  • Lot 20, Conc. 6, Stanhope: HIs son Daniel Henry purchased this lot in 1910 from John Herbert Sisson.

Interesting facts:

From Canadian Post (Lindsay, ONT), 29 May 1891:
MINDEN. Burned by Bush Fires: Mr. John McPhail of Stanhope, while drawing a load of hay in the neighbourhood of some bush fires had the misfortune to lose both is hay and wagon. The fire caught in the hay and both it and the wagon were destroyed, nothing remaining but a little pile of burnt iron on the road.
