Ruth and George Varty were introduced to Boshkung lake in 1933, as weekend guests of their friends, the Hillock family. Later, they rented, for $25.00 for the summer, a little cabin on the east side of highway 35, a building owned by Victor MacBrien, which had been used by road crews when the road was moved and improved in 1936. The bought a pie-shaped property located just north of Hamilton Beach, north of the corner which is north of North Shore road, a corner that used to be called Ox Corner, said Leigh Sisson, because an ox used in the road building, had died there. It was the property where logs used to be slide down onto the ice. When they bought it, the bark from rolling logs was three feet deep.
