Interesting facts:

Many who took up Bobcaygeon Road grants were discharged British Army men. George Thompson wrote of their problems with the rocky and stubborn land. If it was awarded for "good service rendered" he wondered what they gave soldiers whose conduct was bad. So hard and rock strewn was the soil, Thompson thought the veterans must have longed for their captured Crimean cannon "to shoot seeds into the ground".
