Interesting facts:

Gelert gained importance as a centre of commerce and transportation when the arrival of the Victoria Railway's steel made it Minden's nearest station. One of its most versatile citizens was Gideon Phillip Mark, born in Mariposa township in 1847, who loved to recount his memories of Lindsay when it was principally a a cedar swamp. In addition to being active in Snowdon's municipal affairs, he had been connected with the pioneering of both Stanhope and Dorset. Source: In Quest of Yesterday by Nila Reynolds.
