Interesting facts: Mr. McIlroy and his wife ran the Dorset House, a small hotel. This location for many years had a hotel with the name changing slightly. The last hotel at this site was made of brick. On the 1901 Census he is listed as living in Dorset Village which is where the hotel was located on the above lot and con. At the time of the 1911 census there were five family members, one domestic, two boarders, and eight lodgers.
Thanks to the logging industry, by the 1880's Dorset was a boom town. Dan McIlroy built a hotel called "The Narrows". Source: In Quest of Yesterday by Nila Reynolds. Published by The Provisional County of Haliburton, Minden, Ontario 1973 pg. 333
