There are seven residences on Lucy Lake. The first to build there were Amos Cooper and Norman Land in 1958. Mr. Cooper named the property "Mantao" which he said meant "home away from home". Lou Thompson bought the place after Mr. Cooper died.

Ken and Penny Dudley built their cottage a few years later and stayed for thirty years. Vern Shaw is the new owner of this place. John and May Hopkins built their cottage next to the Dudley's. Their son, James, now looks after the property.

The other permanent residents on the lake are Bill Scott and Gustav Miller. Their places lie on either side of the Bakers. Across the road from the lake is the house originally owned by John and Sunny Yaskovitch and now occupied by other members of their family. Norman  and Pat Land still live in the main house with their daughter, Susan. Norman originally built four cabins beside the house and ran "Lucy Lake Cabins" for ten years. His son Tom and his wife, Nancy, now live next door on the property where the cabins stood.

My parents, Penny and Ken Dudley decided to buy property on Lucy Lake in about 1958 after working for years in Algonquin Park. Dad taught canoeing at summer camps and later guided fishing and canoe trips. They originally intended to build in the Park, but later changed their minds, believing it would be best to live just beyond the boundaries, where they would not be restricted by Park policies.
